The final 2012 CLM and DC Psychiatric Society, AWPS Chapter, was a great success with a focus on Global Mental Health with Dr. Pamela Y. Collins as our mentor who gave an inspiring presentation about her career as well as about the NIMH initiatives in global mental health for low and low middle-income countries. The event was attended by about thirty MITs, ECPs and WPS members and guests, including guests from the American Oncological Society interested in our CLM program.

We were also privileged to have with us DC Councilwoman Mary Cheh who engaged robustly in our dialog focusing on the role of prevention and public health. A potential collaborative project with the Councilwoman was discussed. She also accepted the invitation from DC Psychiatric Society President, Enrico Suardi, MD, to meet with the Chapter in the new year.

At this program we were also pleased to announce that the abstracts submitted by our WPS MITs, Doctors Rajeev Sharma, Mona Thappa, Urooj Saeed, Milangel Concepcion, and Veronica Slootsky were accepted by the Scientific Committee of the WPA 2013 Bucharest Congress . The abstracts submitted by our Area 3 members, Bruce Hershfield & Anita Everett as well as those WPS members, Drs. Allen Dyer, Catherine May and Connie Dunlap were also accepted.

They will all be part of the WPA 2013 Bucharest Congress focusing on the Integration of Primary Care, Mental Health & Public Health for Southeast Europe & Eurasia. This historic and unprecedented congress will take place at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, ROMANIA on April 10-13, 2013. 2012 CLM makes a most auspicious start
A spirited group of MITs, ECPs and Senior WPS members met last evening, January 19th at Sports LA cafe in downtown DC to kick off the 2012 Career, Leadership & Mentorship series. Many thanks to Dr. Carol Lynn Trippitelli and to Pat Troy and her staff for taking superb care of all of the logistical details…! It was a very auspicious beginning for our 2012 CLM….!

We enjoyed together thought provoking and inspiring presentations on Public Psychiatry by Drs. Robert Keisling, President of WPS & Medical Director of Pathways, DC, Yavar Moghimi, DC Psychiatric Society President & consulting Psychiatric physician at the Whitman Walker Clinic, and Ricardo Galbis, Medical Director Andromeda Mental Health clinic who spontaneously joined us last evening.
