Program Learning Objectives – At the conclusion of this activity participants will be able to:

  • Identify clinical red flags and cognitive biases that may delay the diagnosis of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) in psychiatric settings; and
  • Recognize the psychiatrist’s multifaceted role in bridging medical and psychiatric evaluation.


Presenter:  Jingxiong Pu, MD is a third-year psychiatry resident at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC. She is an international medical graduate with a strong foundation in both medical rigor and reflective practice. She has a particular interest in complex diagnostic work, psychodynamic thinking, and the role of cultural identity in shaping how patients and clinicians make meaning of illness. During residency, Dr. Pu has contributed to multiple academic projects, including case reports and poster presentations on topics such as anorexia nervosa, supratherapeutic antipsychotic dosing, and trauma-focused therapy modalities. She has presented her work at the American Psychiatric Association and multiple regional conferences. Dr. Pu also co-leads her residency’s Balint group and serves on the Council of the American Balint Society. She is committed to integrating reflective practice, rigorous diagnostic thinking, and the relational depth needed to navigate complexity.

Discussant:  John W. Stiller, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and Director of the Neurology Consultation Service at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. He completed his neurology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Stiller brings extensive clinical experience, with the past two decades focused on behavioral neurology, neuropsychiatry, and chronic traumatic brain injury. He previously served as Chief Physician and Neurologist for the Maryland State Athletic Commission and is currently a member of the Mood and Anxiety Program research team affiliated with the University of Maryland. He is also a contributing member of Physicians for a Healthy Democracy and remains deeply engaged in medical education and public health advocacy.
